Most events are held at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 15 Pearl Street, Mystic, CT 06355. Events held at other locations are emphasized by this font. Holy days and most secular holidays are noted this way. 4 Lent, for example, means the fourth Sunday in Lent.

Daily or weekly events, such as Morning Prayer, the Holy Eucharist at StoneRidge, are described in detail on the Description & Schedule Page, along with some monthly events such as the Healing Service.

The 2008 Photo Directory is Almost Here!

St. Mark's is fortunate to have had the photographers agree to one more session!

For people who couldn't make the February sessions, photos were taken on Wednesday, March 12th. There are details below, after the March 2008 Calendar.

You're a part of the St. Mark's family, and we need your picture in the family album!

The Way of the Cross - Fridays in Lent, beginning at 6:00 PM

The Way of the Cross is a simple and moving Lenten remembrance of Jesus's journey to the cross. This observance was brought home by pilgrims to Jerusalem who had retraced Jesus's steps and found it extremely meaningful.

Photo sessions for the Church Directory - Wednesday, March 12 from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM

It doesn't seem possible that it has been so many years since the last photo directory was published!

How often have you read a name in The Lion's Tale or heard it in conversation and thought "That name sounds familiar", but have not been able to connect the name with a face? Or how often have you met a fellow parishioner at the library, post office, or grocery store and realized that you didn't know the person's name?

Now you can solve both problems by participating in the 2008 Church Photo Directory. Just make an appointment to have your picture taken, spend a few minutes with the photographer, and receive a free 8 x 10 portrait and a free copy of the Church Photo Directory when it is published.

With modern technology, you will be able to see video "proofs" of your portraits immediately. If you want to purchase a portrait, there will be specially-priced packages available, but there will not be any pressure to make a purchase.

Palm Blessing at Mystic River Park - Palm Sunday, March 16 at 9:30 AM

On Palm Sunday people from several local churches gather at Mystic River Park (external Site), a short walk across the Mystic River, for an ecumenical service of blessing of the palms. After the service, people walk in procession to their churches; from the Park to St. Mark's is about a quarter mile.

Theology Sandwiched In - Tuesday, March 18 at 12:30 PM

The book for March is The Screwtape Letters, a classic by C. S. Lewis.

What if Hell were organized as a bureaucracy, with managers and field agents? Screwtape is upper management, and Wormwood's uncle. Hell shares no love, but it is full of advice on the weaknesses of humanity, and it is very practical. Through Screwtape's letters of advice to Wormwood, Lewis reveals our all-too-human weaknesses.

Don't forget to ask for your reading group discount at Bank Square Books (external Site).

Please bring your bag lunch; beverages will be provided.

This year the walkathon is specifically to help combat racism, with most of the proceeds going to benefit the poorest rural Blacks in the deep South.
