Most events are held at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 15 Pearl Street, Mystic, CT 06355. Events held at other locations are emphasized by this font. Holy days and most secular holidays are noted this way. 12 Pentecost, for example, means the twelfth Sunday after Pentecost.

Daily or weekly events, such as Morning Prayer, the Holy Eucharist at StoneRidge, are described in detail on the Description & Schedule Page, along with some monthly events such as the Healing Service.

From Memorial Day Weekend through Labor Day Weekend, instead of gathering after each Sunday service for Coffee Hour in the Undercroft, we gather for Lemonade on the Lawn in front of the church. The combination of warm weather, informality, and open space often means that we get to know one another better. Don't like lemonade? There's always an alternative: Fruit juice, punch, or bottled water. There are cookies, brownies, et cetera, too.

The Adult Forum, Church School, Choir Rehearsal, and Handbell Rehearsal, and Theology Sandwiched In (book discussions) take the summer off.

Summer Choir Rehearsals take place at 9:15 AM on Sundays. Would you like to try singing in the choir without making a long-term commitment? Then Summer Choir is for you! Just show up to rehearse in the Music Room in the Education Wing.

Godly Time is the summer replacement for Godly Play. It gives parents a chance to have volunteers (other parents) keep an eye on their children until the kids join the service at announcement time in the Sanctuary. Godly Play will return in September.

August Special Events

Church School to Mystic Manor - Saturday August 2 and September 6 at 10:00 AM

For the past six years, on the first Saturday of each month a group of St. Mark's Church School teachers, their children and grandchildren, and many of the children from the Church School and their parents visit the residents of Mystic Manor.

We do a seasonal craft, which usually consists of a drawing that we color and decorate with flowers, stickers, etc. Two or three times a year we have a party at Mystic Manor, to which we bring cookies and cupcakes. Mark Wydler plays his guitar and leads us all in song. Fr. Mark Santucci gives much comfort and cheer to all.

MAEC Summer Film Series - Thursday August 7 and Thursday August 21 at 7:00 PM

The Mystic Area Ecumenical Council is sponsoring a series of films, to be shown at area churches this summer. On August 7th Noank Baptist Church will be the host church for the film Juno. A tale told over four seasons, starting in autumn when Juno, a 16-year-old high-school junior in Minnesota, discovers she's pregnant after one event with her best friend, Bleeker. In the waiting room of an abortion clinic, the quirky and whip-sharp Juno decides to give birth and to place the child with an adoptive couple. She finds one in the Pennysaver personals, contacts them, tells her dad and step-mother, and carries on with school. The chosen parents, upscale yuppies (one of whom is cool and laid back, the other meticulous and uptight), meet Juno, sign papers, and the year unfolds. Will Juno's plan work, can she improvise, and what about Bleeker? Rated PG-13.

Juno: A comedy about growing up ... and the bumps along the way.

On August 21st Mystic Congregational Church will be the host church for Under the Same Moon. Adrian Alonso stars as Carlitos, a Mexican adolescent living with his grandmother while his mother works as a maid in the US, hoping someday to send for her child. But when the grandmother dies unexpectedly, Carlitos must sneak across the border and seek out his mother. Rated PG-13.

Under the Same Moon: A young boy travels to find his mother after his grandmother dies.

The Seabury Deanery is taking a vacation from meetings in August.

September's meeting will be at St. James Church in New London (external Site),

Seabury Deanery is an affiliation of Episcopal Churches in Southeastern Connecticut. Member churches include St. Mark's Church in Mystic, St. James Church in New London (external Site), St. John's Church in Niantic (external Site), St. James Church in Poquetanuck (external Site), St. David's Church in Gales Ferry (external Site), Grace Church in Yantic (external Site), Christ Episcopal Church in Norwich (external Site), Calvary Church in Stonington (external Site), and St. James Church in New London (external Site).

"The Diocese [of Connecticut] is divided into 14 geographic units called deaneries, each with an elected dean, sub-dean, secretary and treasurer. These were established decades ago as a way to improve communication and encourage collaborative ministry, and replaced an older model of archdeaconries."

"The diocesan bishop views the deanery system as a helpful way to gather clergy and parishes regionally. Confirmations are held on a deanery basis, and bishops meet with each deanery's clergy on a regular basis. Elected lay delegates to convention serve as delegates to their deanery as well."

(The two quoted paragraphs are from the Episcopal Diocese of Connecticut Web Site (external Site).
