View of St. Mark's Church coming from Main Street

Most events are held at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 15 Pearl Street, Mystic, CT 06355. Events held at other locations are emphasized by this font. Holy days and most secular holidays are noted this way. 2 Pentecost, for example, means the 2nd Sunday after Pentecost.

Daily or weekly events, such as Morning Prayer, the Holy Eucharist at StoneRidge, are described in detail on the Description & Schedule Page, along with some monthly events such as the Healing Service.

The few Parish Picnic photos on this Page show everyone having a good time on Sunday the 7th of June following the 10 o'clock Eucharist. There are many more Parish Picnic photos on the 2009 Parish Picnic Page.

On June 14th, Newcomers Sunday, there was be a Parish Breakfast to give us the opportunity to meet and get to know people who have recently joined St. Mark's. See some pictures of the Parish Breakfast.

On June 28th there was one Eucharist service at 9:00 AM. Thanks to Bob Welt for the photos, below! The sanctuary is in the process of being painted, thanks to funds from the Capital Campaign. The weather cooperated and the service was held outside on the Church grounds.

June Special Events

Church School to Mystic Manor - Saturday June 6 at 10:00 AM

For the past six years, on the first Saturday of each month a group of St. Mark's Church School teachers, their children and grandchildren, and many of the children from the Church School and their parents visit the residents of Mystic Manor.

We do a seasonal craft, which usually consists of a drawing that we color and decorate with flowers, stickers, etc. Two or three times a year we have a party at Mystic Manor, to which we bring cookies and cupcakes. Mark Wydler plays his guitar and leads us all in song. Fr. Mark Santucci gives much comfort and cheer to all.

Summer Choir rehearsals - Most Sundays during June

Would you like to try singing in the choir without making a long-term commitment?

Then Summer Choir is for you! Just show up to rehearse in the Music Room in the Education Wing.

Summer Choir Rehearsals take place at 9:15 AM on all Sundays in June except for June 14, Newcomers Sunday, the day of the Parish Breakfast, and June 28, when we will have the service outside because the Sanctuary is being painted.

St. Mark's Parish Picnic - Sunday June 7 (following the 10:00 AM Eucharist)

Our Annual Parish Picnic was held at Sutton Park in Groton.

Fr. Mark had arranged beautiful weather for us again this year.

Thanks to Bob Welt for these photos!

Hot dogs and hamburgers were provided by St. Mark's. People brought side dishes to share and their own drinks.

There are more outdoor activities planned for this Summer; see especially June 28th.

Parish Breakfast - Sunday June 14 at 9:00 AM

Everyone was invited to join us for a full and delicious breakfast and to take the opportunity to welcome some of our recent newcomers.

Breakfast was delicious! There was quite a range of ages represented at the Breakfast.

St. Mark's Church enjoys the reputation of being an open and welcoming community.

The Breakfast was a good time to show people where the ceramic cups are kept and explain that we serve Fair Trade coffee exclusively.

We use only ceramic or glass cups so that we do not use Styrofoam or other plastic that is not recyclable. We simply rinse out the cups and store them in a cupboard in the Undercroft. Visitors are welcome to choose any cup that suits them!

Newcomers were recognized and introduced by name. Young newcomers weren't left out.

Fr. Mark presented ceramic cups with St. Mark's Church name and logo to several people who are new to St. Mark's Parish.

Putting on new name badges. It seems young people always end up on the floor.

In addition to the cups, name tags were presented to people new to the Parish.

"The Diocese [of Connecticut] is divided into 14 geographic units called deaneries, each with an elected dean, sub-dean, secretary and treasurer. These were established decades ago as a way to improve communication and encourage collaborative ministry, and replaced an older model of archdeaconries."

"The diocesan bishop views the deanery system as a helpful way to gather clergy and parishes regionally. Confirmations are held on a deanery basis, and bishops meet with each deanery's clergy on a regular basis. Elected lay delegates to convention serve as delegates to their deanery as well."

(The two quoted paragraphs are from the Episcopal Diocese of Connecticut Web Site (external Site). The Seabury Deanery Site (WWW.SeaburyDeanery.Org) has much more information which is specific to the Seabury Deanery.

Service on the Lawn - Sunday, June 28 at 9:00 AM

Because the Sanctuary was being painted, we held one service at 9:00 AM on Sunday the 28th of June. People who attend the 8:00 service do not often break bread with the people who attend at 10:00, so this was a good time to worship together.

Welcoming a visitor before the service. The processional to the open-air altar.

When we have services outside we welcome all visitors, whether on two legs or four.

David Tubbs brought his synthesizer and an amplifier so that we could have the same high-quality music outside that we normally have inside. Our four-legged visitor decided that the music was fine for humans, but not for felines.

Gail N., this Sunday's Cantor, led us in the Psalm. The Summer Choir had rehearsed at 8:15 today, an hour earlier than usual, in order to be prepared for this special service.

Doug Barrett reading from the Second Letter to the Corinthians

The entire service, including the hymns, was printed in the bulletin, so we did not need to bring either the Book of Common Prayer or the Hymnal out of the church and risk getting them wet if it started to rain.

Chanting the Psalm Preparing for Communion 'Alleluia! Christ our passover is sacreficed for us.' LEFT RIGHT

After the bread and wine had been consecrated, communion was administered in two lines.

People who would have had difficulty climbing the stairs received communion in their chairs.

After the service, people gathered for Lemonade on the Lawn as usual during the summer months.
