Most events are held at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 15 Pearl Street, Mystic, CT 06355. Events held at other locations are emphasized by this font. Holy days and most secular holidays are noted this way. 19 Pentecost, for example, means the 19th Sunday after Pentecost.
Daily or weekly events, such as Morning Prayer, the Holy Eucharist at StoneRidge, are described in detail on the Description & Schedule Page, along with some monthly events such as the Healing Service.
St. Mark's celebrates the annual Blessing of the Animals on the Sunday closest to the feast day of St. Francis of Assisi. This year's celebration was on October 4th, the Feast Day of St. Francis. It was so much fun that there is a whole Page of photographs!
The Christmas Bazaar is coming up on the 21st of November, so there will be two Bazaar Intake sessions: Saturdays October 10th and 24th, beginning at 9:00 AM
The 2009 CROP Walk will take place on the 18th. There are photos of St. Mark's 2008 walkers. Please help by walking or sponsoring a walker!
Be sure to check out the Previews of Coming Events for some important events and schedule changes!

We gathered at 9:00 AM in the barking ... oops, parking lot for the blessing of all our animals, including stuffed animals. Fr. Warren Ernest blessed the creatures great and small.
Following the short service of thanksgiving and blessing, an interspecies social hour was held with snacks appropriate for each of God's creatures.
The Page of photos from 2008 is still available .

CROP stands for Communities Responding to Overcome Poverty. CROP Walks support the work of Church World Services (external Site), an ecumenical organization of many denominations.
The Walk will start at St. Mark's, then go to Noank Baptist Church and back. The Walk is always held, no matter what the weather. As you see in the photos from 2008, above, the walkers were prepared for the chilly weather last year. This year there will be about 100 walkers, rain or shine.
One quarter of the funds raised by the annual walk are returned to the Mystic Area Ecumenical Council-related charities MASH (Mystic Area Shelter and Hospitality) and Care and Share. Please contribute by walking or sponsoring a walker!

In Same Kind of Different as Me we meet Denver, a man raised under plantation-style slavery in Louisiana in the 1960s; a man who escaped, hopping a train to wander, homeless, for eighteen years on the streets of Dallas, Texas. No longer a slave, Denver's life was still hopeless — until God moved. First came a godly woman who prayed, listened, and obeyed. And then came her husband, Ron, an international arts dealer at home in a world of Armani-suited millionaires. And then they all came together.
But slavery takes many forms. Deborah discovers that she has cancer. In the face of possible death, she charges her husband to rescue Denver. Who will be saved, and who will be lost? What is the future for these unlikely three? What is God doing?
Same Kind of Different As Me is the emotional tale of their story: a telling of pain and laughter, doubt and tears, dug out between the bondages of this earth and the free possibility of heaven. No reader will ever forget it.
Remember to ask for your reading group discount at Bank Square Books (external Site). Our discussion will be on Tuesday, October 27 at 12:00 Noon.

"The Diocese [of Connecticut] is divided into 14 geographic units called deaneries, each with an elected dean, sub-dean, secretary and treasurer. These were established decades ago as a way to improve communication and encourage collaborative ministry, and replaced an older model of archdeaconries."
"The diocesan bishop views the deanery system as a helpful way to gather clergy and parishes regionally. Confirmations are held on a deanery basis, and bishops meet with each deanery's clergy on a regular basis. Elected lay delegates to convention serve as delegates to their deanery as well."
(The two quoted paragraphs are from the Episcopal Diocese of Connecticut Web Site (external Site). The Seabury Deanery Site (WWW.SeaburyDeanery.Org) has much more information which is specific to the Seabury Deanery.

Bishop Andrew Smith will be making what is very likely to be his last official visit to St. Mark's on the first Sunday of November, 2009.
Home visitations take place. There will be no Sunday morning services. There will be a single service at 4:30 PM.
Instead of the usual 8:00 AM and 10:00 AM Sunday services we will be visited in our homes by volunteers who will discuss stewardship and ask us to make our pledges.
At 4:30 PM we will meet in the Sanctuary for an in-gathering of pledges and a service of commitment.
Each year brings a different collection of items, but the old standbys still remain popular: Hand-made quilts, wreathes, pies, jams & jellies, and needlework. No matter what your gift list looks like, you'll find something for everyone!
