February 2010 Calendar
St. Mark's Episcopal Church, Mystic, Connecticut |
![]() |
Most events are held at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 15 Pearl Street, Mystic, CT 06355. Events held at other locations are emphasized by this font. Holy days and most secular holidays are noted this way. 5 Epiphany, for example, means the 5th Sunday after Epiphany.
Daily or weekly events, such as Morning Prayer, the Holy Eucharist at StoneRidge, are described in detail on the Description & Schedule Page, along with some monthly events such as the Healing Service.
Photos of the Pancake Supper on Shrove Tuesday the 16th show people enjoying the festivity before the solemnity of Lent.
Lent in 2010 began with Ash Wednesday on February 17th and continues for 46 days, concluding on Saturday the 3rd of April. The six Sundays are not counted as part of Lent's 40 days because each Sunday is a feast day, a "mini-Easter" celebrating Jesus's resurrection and His victory over sin and death.
Each year St. Mark's Church plans special programs and events during the Lenten season. On Wednesdays we will gather for a Contemplative Eucharist and Service of Healing. On Fridays we walk the Way of the Cross, a simple and moving Lenten remembrance of Jesus's journey to the cross. Please see the Lenten Programs Page for a full description of these programs. The 2010 Holy Week and Easter schedule and March 2010 Calendar are also available.

"The Diocese [of Connecticut] is divided into 14 geographic units called deaneries, each with an elected dean, sub-dean, secretary and treasurer. These were established decades ago as a way to improve communication and encourage collaborative ministry, and replaced an older model of archdeaconries."
"The diocesan bishop views the deanery system as a helpful way to gather clergy and parishes regionally. Confirmations are held on a deanery basis, and bishops meet with each deanery's clergy on a regular basis. Elected lay delegates to convention serve as delegates to their deanery as well."
The two paragraphs quoted above are from the Episcopal Diocese of Connecticut Web Site (external Site). The Seabury Deanery Site (WWW.SeaburyDeanery.Org) has much more information which is specific to the Seabury Deanery.

Karin Crompton, a reporter for The New London Day who has recently traveled to Haiti, shared her impressions of the conditions in Haiti following the earthquake in January.
For much of the world the quake in Haiti is old news. There are always new things to take hold of the headlines and crises to take hold of our attention. For those of us who have a personal connection with the people of Haiti, and for those like us who see the people of Haiti as our partners in mission, this is just the beginning.
Because of our partnership with St. Luc's School we will continue to have the people of Haiti in our thoughts and prayers as the recovery from disaster continues.
