The 2009 Lenten Programs at St. Mark's Episcopal Church incorporate one familiar practice and three new activities:
The Way of the Cross (also known as the Stations of the Cross)
Praying with the Poets
Grounded in Love: Ecology, Faith and Action Please note the change in schedule.
Contemplative Eucharist

The 2009 Holy Week and Easter schedule is listed below. Please note the change in schedule for Maundy Thursday.

The Way of the Cross

Every Friday in Lent, beginning at 6:00 PM

Join us in this simple and moving Lenten remembrance of Jesus's journey to the cross. This observance was brought home by pilgrims to Jerusalem who had retraced Jesus's steps and found it extremely meaningful.

Praying with the Poets

Every Sunday morning in March, during the Adult Forum beginning at 9:00 AM

Poetry and prayer both help us to express our longings and our questions, our faith, and our hope. This series will explore the connections between prayer and poetry by looking at the prayerful works of poets, some well known and some not so well known. Please see the Adult Forum Page for more information.

Grounded in Love: Ecology, Faith and Action

Each Sunday evening in Lent, beginning at 6:30 PM

Please note the change in schedule. Weather prevented the first session being held on the 1st of March, as had been planned. The series will now extend into April.

Using Nancy Roth's book as a guide, we will learn about and reflect upon our life together on the Earth and discuss the connections among ecology, faith, and action.

Reading the book will be helpful, but is not required. Please see Fr. Mark if you would like a copy.

Grounded in Love: Ecology, Faith and Action
Schedule from March 8th through April 5th 2009
The discussion begins at 6:30 PM each Sunday evening.
March 8th Love
March 15th Concern
March 22nd Ethics
March 29th Action
April 5th Hope

Contemplative Eucharist

Wednesday evenings at 7:00 PM
March 4th, 11th, 18th, 25th, April 1st, and 8th

There is something different for Wednesday nights in Lent this year. We will gather in the church for a somewhat more reflective celebration of the Holy Eucharist. We will learn some music that we can sing without books, we will allow for more extensive silence, and we will think together about the lessons and how they relate to our spiritual journey. Please join us for a new expression of our familiar liturgy.
