The Rev. Mark A. Santucci has served as rector of Saint Mark's since 1993. During the time he has led the parish in its efforts to claim the ministry of all members, to develop its ministry with children, and to reach out in ministry in the community and beyond. Mark has a deep passion for the worship of the church and for leading small group discussions.

Beside his ministry at Saint Mark's, Mark is active in community and ecumenical endeavors. He was one of the founders of Mystic Area Shelter and Hospitality (MASH) and still serves on its board. He is the president of the Mystic Area Ecumenical Council and the organizer of the annual Palm Sunday ecumenical Palm Blessing.

Mark serves the wider church as the chairman of the Diocese of Connecticut's Commission on Ministry and as a member of the General Theological Seminary's Alumni/ae Executive Committee. He has served as chairman of the diocese's examining chaplains, as a trustee of General Theological Seminary, and twice as a deputy to General Convention.

When not busy with church business, Mark likes to take photographs (he has a really good camera), write poetry, and root for the Red Sox.

Mark was ordained in 1982 in the Diocese of Central Pennsylvania and served parishes in Harrisburg and Williamsport, Pennsylvania. He earned the Master of Divinity cum laude from the General Theological Seminary, an M.S. in counseling psychology from the University of Scranton, and his A.B. from Lycoming College.

A native of Connecticut, Mark was raised in the small, central Connecticut town of Plainville. He and his wife Marlene have two grown sons, David and Matthew.

Altar, Church and Town

by Fr. Mark Santucci, Rector

On knee, with hand and lips and heart I reach
To know that presence where my soul can rest.
I seek your love, my feeble love to teach,
That serving you with praise I am my best.

With hand in hand and arm in arm we plead
That you, O Lord, might show us how to pray
Not only with our word but with our deed
'Til through our service Gospel truth we say.

The avenues and streets of life are full
Of chances for my serving heart to grow
In loving you, my God, and others well
That they and I your love might better know.

At altar, church and town, Lord come to me,
And give me grace to serve you in all three.
